Drexel appeared to have the game won in regulation and in the first overtime period, but both times, Northeastern's (4-12, 1-1) Demetrius Pollard came up big. The Dragons led 67-64 after a pair of Massenat free throws with just six seconds remaining. However, David Walker fed Pollard in the right corner and the junior knocked down a three-pointer which tied the game and silenced the sell-out crowd at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. In the extra period, the Dragons again held a three-point lead in the final minute, but again Pollard tied it, this time with a three-point play with 33 seconds left. Drexel had the final possession, but Massenat's drive to the basket, drew contact, but no call as the teams were forced to play another frame.
The Huskies led by as many as seven points in the second half on two occasions. Scott Eatherton, who finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds, scored on a lay-in with 9:02 to play to put NU up 52-45. The Dragons chipped away and eventually tied the game on a pair of Fouch free throws with 3:24 left in regulation. Drexel grabbed the momentum and had two three-point leads late before Pollard's shot sent the game to overtime.
