"While we certainly don't want to put ourselves in the hole we were in, we were proud of the fight the team showed in the second half against a well-coached Liberty team," Head Coach Candace Taglianetti Bossell said. "We had a couple players sidelined today with injuries and illness, and it was great to see Toni [Massetti] put together a performance she was capable of."
Defensively, Katie Marasco recorded two draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls to put together a well-rounded game.

"We [also] asked Katie Marasco to step into a larger role in Claire [Andrews]'s absence and she came up huge," Taglianetti Bossell added.

Liberty rattled off the first four goals of the game over the first 11 minutes, including both of Becker's goals.
McCabe got the Explorers on the board at the 18:00 mark, taking a feed from Fay off of a woman-up free position attempt.
The Flames responded with two more over the next 10 minutes to take a 6-1 lead at the 8:22 mark of the first half.

Ilgenfritz converted a free position goal at 7:50 for the Explorers' second goal and Abby O'Donnell found McCabe two minutes later to cut the Flames lead to 6-3.
However, the Flames finished out the half with two more goals including a woman-up goal with 16 seconds until halftime to take an 8-3 lead into the break.
